What happens if I use an overdrive pedal over my amps distortion?
Question:
I have a line 6 spider III and Ive been wandering what happens if i use a distortion pedal over the insane chanel PLZ help me its my first time with an elctric instrument i dunno if it will blow up because there's too much distortion
Answer:
You should be fine, although it'll probably feed back like crazy and create alot of noise. Distortion pedals works by clipping the sound - you'll just be clipping the sound more and in different ways. The most i've used is 3 distortion pedals and the overdrive channel of my amp - that said i've only done this through a very good amp. There were no problems doing that, i just had a wall of noise.
Best bet is to turn the gain all the way down and build it up slowly. If you think it's going to damage your amp stop straight away. Like i say, i've done this many times with no problems but i use a tube amp which could work differently to your line 6 - start low and build it up.
Also i feel i should say i take no responsibility for anything, i'm just sharing experience. Some other musicans use 2 distortions at once too - if i'm right metallica's old rythmn sound was a distortion pedal and a the amps distortion. Experiment, but start with the settings low!
